Maggie & David’s Wedding

The weekend of Easter my family was lucky enough to be able to get together and celebrate the beautiful and joyous wedding of my cousin Maggie and her husband David and it was just beautiful! The wedding was here in Houston at the Hotel Zaza with the ceremony down in the courtyard outside by the pool, which unfortunately I didn’t get any pictures of and the cocktail hour and reception were in the main ballroom and it was just gorgeous!

Maggie like always looked amazing, but especially gorgeous and her dress was spectacular and looked like it was especially made just for her, it was just perfect! I love weddings so much and getting to see all the different brides dresses and decorations, but all in all it really brings back so many sweet memories from when we planned and had our wedding. I would have to say the year we were engaged was probably one of the best years of my life, I loved every single minute of those thirteen months and I would do all over again in a heartbeat if anyone ever asked me!

Now on to the pictures….

February Update

Since I am up kinda late I thought I would just do a short update on what we have been up the past month of February. It was good, busy, and fast month. We celebrated our 4th Valentine’s Day as a married couple and probably like 9th or 10th Valentine’s Day since dating. We also celebrated Jake’s 26th birthday with both of our families on separate occasions. We made a few new purchases for

our new house that were definitely needed including our first lawnmower and our yard has had its first trim and pre spring grooming.

Aside from celebrating holidays and making purchases we have just been doing the usual work life thing, trying to enjoy for what it brings! But I also had the lovely opportunity to go to the Women of Faith event at Lakewood Church here in Houston with my aunt Monica and cousins Hannah & Rachel to hear Beth Moore, Priscilla Shirer, Sheila Walsh, Lisa Harper, and Christine Caine speak and hear worship from the awesome Kari Jobe. The two days were so great and I just didn’t want them to end at all, I really really needed a full weekend there! I really learned so much and will write an entire post on everything about that weekend but it was so amazing and felt so great to be there spending it with my aunt and cousins who I never seem to get to see anymore. Jake also had a friend that we went to ACU with come into town the same weekend I went downtown to this womens conference so it all worked out so perfect. And I was really so glad he got to spend some guy time with his brother and friend that he hadn’t seen in a long while. We also had long awaited tickets to the Houston Symphony music from the Mad Men Era which was so fabulous, the best show I have been to when we are talking about symphonies at least. They had some really great singers/performers from Broadway that were truly so entertaining to watch so I absolutely loved getting dressed up, heading downtown, and going back into the 50s and 60s for a couple of hours. We really love the symphony and try to get tickets to one or two shows a year.

And for the very end of the month and beginning of March we took a weekend family trip to the ranch with my parents, sister, brother in law, precious nephew and it was alot of fun. It was just a weekend full relaxing together, riding around seeing the ranch, cooking and eating and hanging out together, and heading back home Sunday afternoon. I am so thankful my uncle Brad is generous enough to let us use the ranch when it is available for our family to meet up together. But it has been a busy but fun month all in all but I’m glad March and spring time are approaching, I think it is going to be a fun one! We do have lots to look forward to including but not limited to family wedding shower, spring break trip to Abilene, family birthdays, family wedding, Easter holiday weekend, and what ever else decides to come our way.

More to come soon, and pictures next time!

Epilepsy Walk 2014

Last year was the first year we have donated, walked, and took part in the annual Walk For The Epilepsy and I’m proud to say with the help of ALL of our wonderful family and friends we raised $525.00! We are doing our very best this year to raise money and participate even more in the Annual Houston Stroll For Epilepsy. We are trying to change things up a bit this year and designing our own t shirts to wear on the day of the walk, while I’m also raising the amount of our goal donation to $1,000.00! ย The Epilepsy Foundation of Texas has Epilepsy Walks all over the state during the spring so PLEASE think about participating and/or donating to find a cure for Epilepsy and seizures. Here is our family picture or TEAM JILLIAN picture from last year at the Houston Zoo right before the walk began.IMG_0434Here is the link to my Team Jillian fundraising webpage where you can go online to donate or read more about participating in any of the walks for Epilepsy: ย http://eftx.donordrive.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=donorDrive.participant&participantID=19110

Last week my Dad came into town to see one of his favorite singers in concert in Galveston at the old 1894 Grand Opera House. Originally my mom was supposed to come with him but she wasn’t able to take off work from school so he just came by himself and was hoping to find someone to go with him so he didn’t have to go alone. Although I am not a country music fan at all, I knew this meant alot to my dad so I just went with him to the concert and actually enjoyed myself quite a bit more than I thought I ever would. The most fun part though was definitely being in Galveston for the evening, being near the water, having dinner with my dad, and getting to experience the Mardi Gras parade in Galveston! I have only been to a few small Mardi Gras parades as a kid in Beaumont, but those definitely didn’t hold a candle to the Mardi Gras Parade in Galveston, it really was so fun seeing all of the floats, people, and catching as many beads as I could!

For dinner my dad & I went down to eat by the Port of Galveston by the old Elissa ship, yachts, and other boats and stuff. The restaurant we went to was called Fisherman’s Wharf and it was very delicious, I would definitely recommend it and would for sure go there again! After dinner we went down to find us a good spot to enjoy the Mardi Gras parade before it was time to go get our seats for the concert in the beautiful 1894 Grand Opera House. But before dinner we did have the chance to walk around the Strand and different areas of Galveston and just look around which was pretty fun because I have so many wonderful memories from my childhood in Galveston. I got to see the places we used to spend as a kid, the old ice cream and candy factory that we spent so much time in and other fun stores. I hadn’t been to Galveston since before Hurricane Ike ย so it was really interesting to see how things had changed since then and what they had to change and repair because of the hurricane damage. As we walked along the sidewalks of the strand they had all the water lines marked on the brick walls showing exactly how high the water got during the Hurricane Ike. It was a really cool and unbelievable sight to see!

And here a few pictures from my fun evening in Galveston with my Daddy!

September 11, 2001

September 11, 2001 @ 8:46 a.m: I remember EVERYTHING about that day like I could walk back there and it experience all over again, EVERY LITTLE DETAIL! I remember it started off just like any other old day, nothing special at all about it, it was just a random day in September. It was a day in September in 2001 when my dad and brother had gone ahead in August and made the big move to Abilene so my dad could start his new job as the Chief of Police at ACU and so my younger brother could start at his new school while my mom, older sister and I stayed back home in Beaumont. I remember I was in the 9th grade at Cathedral Christian High School on the historic day. I was in my first period high school Physics science class with Mr. Lee when our principal walked in our classroom to pull our teacher out in the hallway to deliever the hard news to him but didn’t tell the class, which I have always found strange. We left the class and I went on to my second period class which was my Math/Algebra class where I was told what had happened and what was going to happen since there was just so much chaos going on at that point.ย I remember asking questions, alot of why, and then going to have a devotional with the entire school in the hallway since I went to a Christian school we always did things like this in times like this, and I remember going home early! I remember staying home all day watching the news coverage all day with my sister and two cousins and also baking sugar cookies later because that always makes you feel better and going to eat mexican food at one of our local favorites with my grandparents and mom and still to this day when I walk in the restaurant I can remember the exact booth we sat in that day.
Some other distinct things I remember from that day:
– I remember calling my Dad thatย day since he was living in Abilene, I remember how emotional and uncomfortable feeling knowing that he was 500 miles away from the rest of our family unit on that scary day. I specifically remember asking my Dad if this was World War III because for our generation, at least someone my age this was the absolute first experience to war or terrorism or anything like that so that was another very uncomfortable feeling.
-I remember that I was wearing jeans and turquoise long sleeve v-neck t-shirt from American Eagle that day.

picture of The New York Times on September 12th probably printed the day after attacks

one of the many images I remember so vividly from the news coverage, magazines, newspaper, etc…

loved what God did to our nation on this day and sometimes think we forget that as a nation and people on a daily basis, we were a different country and people on that day and in the days and months after…

I will always remember seeing the endless amounts of debris in New York at Ground Zero from the collapse of the World Trade towers. I took my school trip to New York City in March of 2002 not very long after 9/11 happened and will never forget what Ground Zero looked like there was still an inhumane hole in the ground so deep, everything was gated off, most of the debris was cleared off so it didn’t look at all like this image but there endless amounts of cards, pictures, notes, flowers and everything covering the gate in front of ground zero and all kinds of memorbial and plaques which was an experience I will never forget.

Such a beautiful and meaningful memorial

The most creative design of a memorial I could ever think of, so special and meaningful to the victims’ families, countries leaders, nyc fire fighters, police fighters, port authorities, everyone in the country and the world because everyone was affected!

WE WILL NEVER FORGET 9/11!!

I have been back from my exciting, fun trip to Abilene for awhile now but haven’t sat down to upload the pictures to the computer and onto the blog and write about my weekend. So here we go…the last weekend of August Jake drove me to meet my parents in Temple (which is halfway between Katy & Abilene) so they could pick me up and take me back to Abilene for the weekend. It was really great to even get away for just a couple of days and so so incredibely wonderful to get back to Abilene and see the girls and spend the weekend with them! We got back pretty late on Wednesday night and hung out for a little while before heading to bed and then on Thursday morning Sara & Elizabeth came over to hang out since I was basically DYING to see that sweet baby girl who can talk like a four year now, wow! But I just hung out at my parent’s house for the remainder of the morning until lunch time when I went to Oscar’s for mexican food with my dad and brother and then went shopping for Elizabeth birthday presents with my mom later that afternoon when she got home from work. Luckily at the two stores to choose from there in Abilene for kids toys we were able to find Elizabeth some cute things like some adorable big girl pajamas, a sweet Madam Alexander baby doll, and a hilarious pink singing pig named Percy who sing My Girl. Once we got finished with our shopping we met my brother for dinner at Little Italy which was so delish as always! Then on Friday I had a hair appointment that morning to get a very much needed haircut and then my dad & I took Claire took lunch at the Hot Dog place as she calls it, I got to give her her birthday present since I wasn’t able to come to her bday party since I was in the hospital in Houston and she loved it, it was such a precious pink ballet backpack to put all of her ballet clothes and such in with her name monogrammed on the front and a cute Angelina Ballerina book all about ballet that she loved and loved. I stayed all day over at the Trammells house and spent some much needed time with everyone and later that evening had dinner with all their family and mine included which was fun.
Then Saturday we had the BIG BIRTHDAY BASH of Elizabeth & Scout, which was fun with swimming, pizza, cupcakes, lots of kids and families that I have missed desperately, and open presents with a very exciting two year old. Elizabeth and Scout and best friends who were born two days apart and have had their birthdays together since they share so many of the same friends. Later Saturday night my parents & I went to dinner with the Trammells minus Sara & Talmadge who were at the Grace Museum Gala, so it was the grandparents with all the kids so we had dinner with them and then went to have frozen yogurt together which really fun. Then Sunday was spent just hanging out around the house with my parents until we left to meet Matt & Jenna in Temple for them to pick me up to take me back to Katy with them. So needless to say it was aย GREAT ABILENE weekend and I needed it so much, it is so crazy how much it has helped me through everything!! Enjoy the sweet pictures ๐Ÿ™‚
