Christmas 2013

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year and that 2014 has gotten off to a fantastic start! This is a picture from our church small group Christmas party we had at our house about a month ago. Here we all are holding our crazy white elephant gifts, we had alot of fun exchanging and just hanging out and enjoying Christmas goodies! But that was our only Christmas event since Jake’s company had their Christmas party as a day luncheon instead of a dinner party. And before we knew it we were rushing around trying to finish ordering and buying all our Christmas gifts for our families. Then the family was here and it was time to celebrate! This year we had Jake’s family here for Christmas, we did Christmas Eve dinner with them at our house. I made Pioneer Women’s white chicken enchiladas which were fabulous, we had Lupe Tortilla’s Tamales, rice & beans, I love mexican food on Christmas probably because that is what I grew up having on Christmas Eve. Then we had homemade hot apple cider and went out and looked out at Christmas lights in the car. And for Christmas Day we spent the morning and had breakfast with my family over at my sister’s house and enjoyed watching our sweet nephew Parker open his presents from Santa Clause and everyone else and all exchanged gifts with each other. Jake & I got some really neat stuff, tools, socks, hats, Home Depot gift cards, a few magazine subscriptions, candy, and some other gadgets for Jake. As for me scarves, jewelry, new panties, a job haha (my parents will be paying me to clean my sister’s house, which was also a Christmas gift from my parent’s to my sister). I also got a magazine subscription, some new socks, some candy, new hair ties, new make up.

And the rest of the morning we just spent the time hanging out before leaving to head back to our house to do Christmas Day with Jake’s family. We did all our presents and got some great gifts and then Jake cooked an awesome late Christmas lunch of ham, green beans, roasted potatoes, sweet potatoes, and rolls. Jake ended up getting exactly what he wanted despite the difficult effort behind it, he got the game he wanted along with his PS4 system and some other small goodies along with quite a few movies. While I got some pretty awesome stuff I have been wanting such as a white waffle knit robe with my initials monogrammed on the front, the Coldplay Mylo Xylto live dvd, lots of new make up, a new purse, a few new clothes, a few scarves, a new devotional book, a new wallet, a new watch, more new jewelry, new nail polish, a whole new set of make brushes, new knobs for my vanity, and best of all Jake recovered an old hotel vanity stool with some cute fabric to go along with my vanity he was refinishing for me to match our bedroom. I will share pictures of all our favorite gifts soon and especially the refinished vanity and stool that are all done and beautiful, they look fabulous in our room!

This Christmas was really a different kind of holiday for me with not spending all of Christmas Day with my grandparents, all my aunts, and cousins and such for the first time in 27 years but I survived and am just so grateful to everyone that I was able to see both sides of our family on Christmas Day. And as far as the rest of the holiday time, we spent some time with some friends that we don’t ever get to see that live in Houston since everyone was on the holiday break. And also did some organizing and cleaning kind of stuff around the house before New Year’s time came which felt so good. I sure do LOVE a good clean and organized house!

The one debbie downer to our Christmas break was how increibely sick our sweet little Boston Terrier, Emmitt got on Christmas Day and was down for about a week. He started getting sick on Christmas Day sometime just not looking like himself and yelping in pain when anyone would touch him or try and pick him up, especially if you held him near or by his stomach. At that point we had absolutely no idea what could be wrong, we thought he ate something outside and honestly just thought he would be fine the next day or something. But as everyone was leaving that night he started to look worse in the face and his stomach area was getting very bloated and he began to breathe heavily and that was we began to worry more and decided to keep a really close eye on him. And throughout that night and early morning he threw up about 6-7 times and I couldn’t have felt more sorry for him, you could just tell how bad he felt by looking in his sweet eyes. And all this throwing up continued throughout the week, his first day of not throwing up was on Sunday, but he didn’t start eating his dog food until yesterday, which was exactly a week since Christmas Day. We don’t know what he got, but it clearly compromised his poor little system, we really think it was some kind of stomach bug because nothing he ate outside or inside would have made him that sick especially with the fact that he went days without eating so there would have been nothing for him to throw up which really makes me think it was some kind of stomach bug. We are just SO GLAD he is finally feeling better and acting like himself. And I for one was getting really tired of cleaning up throw up and washing all of his blankets and everything, but luckily nothing got ruined in the process.

Up next New Year’s post!

Happy Summer!

Although not in school anymore or having a full time outside of the house job summer feels very different. But nonetheless it is still an exciting and wonderful time of the year with so many things to enjoy! I always look forward to a change of the seasons even though it is already good and hot here, this week we have been in the 90 temperatures already. I can only imagine what July & August will feel like, but that is what living in the south during the summer time is all about! I’ve done it all my life so what is another summer ha!?

Here are a few things that I have been PINspired by lately for this summer:

Some Fall Favorites Of Mine

As fall is approaching I have found so many quite ways to decorate the house for fall and some adorable items for my closet and I just wanted to post a few! And as you look at these pictures remember they are all from Pinterest so anyone can go find and pin them, just wanted to state these are not my pictures or my original ideas, I give Pinterest (the greatest website EVER) and whoever originally posted it all the credit. Since living in the Houston area doesn’t give us such great seasonal opportunities I take what I can get when it comes to cooler temperatures and getting to wear things other than tank tops/short sleeves, shorts, and flip flops. I absolutely love cool weather and really prefer the fashion of fall and winter as opposed to summer. I know I live in the completely wrong city for relying on a change in seasons so any chance I always take what I can get for temperatures below 90!

Since I am still adjusting to being bored at home due to no working or driving I think it is about time I start to get some supplies for some fall projects around the house. Here are a few cute fall projects I had in mind to get started on. The rest of the pictures are of cute fall fashion items I hope to find, hope you enjoy!Image

Cute way of decorating regular white or orange pumpkins and making them unique…plus I love anything chevron print!

rImage

Another way to make pumpkins unique…paint or use fabric or scrapbook paper for initials on a pumpkin, LOVE initials!

Image

Again super easy…this one might be a little more messy than the others, but still cute! You could use real or fake pumpkins, of course using fake ones you would be able to use year after year which works better in my opinion. And you could either buy glitter spray paint or go the other way and use spray adhesive and then roll it in glitter. Either way I think they look so pretty!

Image

I love this orange jacket for fall, not to mention it is the PERFECT Longhorn jacket that of course just adds to the cuteness!

Image

LOVE these fabulous glitter boots for fall…I do believe I should own these, they are too fabulous!!

Image

This is a great fall outfit for the beginning of Fall in Houston when the temperatures haven’t really set in permanently at least. I love the mustard yellow color for fall fashion, it is definitely one of my favorite colors to wear. And I have a thing about pleated clothing, whether it is in shirts, skirts, or dresses I just love itImage

There is really nothing I don’t love about this top…I could wear it with jeans or leggings, it really just screams fall to me. And again just another reason to be in love with it is it would be a perfect Longhorn football top for game day.

Well thats about it for now, until next time HAPPY FALL ๐Ÿ™‚

So since the last time I posted so much has happened, but at the same time it hasn’t been all that exciting, just same ole’ same ole’. But the main exciting things that have been going are:

1. finding THE wedding dress

2. Jake getting an awesome new job

3. and completely changing the wedding plans (for the good)

With the whole dress thing I did get the chance to get to stay with mom at a very nice hotel while she was at a week long conference for school in dallas, texas. I got to lay by the pool and have room service delivered. The most exciting part of the trip was getting to go wedding dress shopping at night when she was done with school, I loved doing that! But after trying on a total of like 40-50 wedding dress I finally found the ONE!!! And yes it does feel as great as everyone always says it does when you finally find your dress! I have not ordered it yet, we are actually leaving tomorrow to head down to waco on our way to houston to get fitted and order the dress at the same place my sister got her wedding dress at because we found it for a great price there! I can’t wait to try it on again!

But another big thing that has happened since you last heard from me on here is that Jake got an awesome new job working as one of the lead sales consultants at Sprint. It is such a good job for him to have right with us getting married in almost 7 months. It comes with great benefits, like all the insurance and the greatest part to me is we both will have free phone plans, so as long as he is working there we won’t have a single cell phone bill to pay. He leaves this coming monday for a 2 week training period in Lubbock, unfortunately not the greatest place on earth, but oh well! When he comes back from his 2 week training he will go straight to working at his new job! I’m so proud of him!! ๐Ÿ™‚

And now for all the wedding planning updates, since finding the wedding dress, that completely changed everything obviously for the better, but i’m so glad it happened the way it has! So now that I have found the dress the wedding plans, theme of the wedding, and all the decorations are much more modern than they were before the dress was found! For instance, I have kinda narrowed it down to two different kinds of flowers for my bouquet and the bridesmaids bouquet, all depending on how each flower holds up. And for all the centerpieces on all the tables at the reception I have narrowed it down to using belles of ireland with another flower for the tall arrangements. Then for the smaller ones on the tables using reindeer moss in vases with a flower on top of it. I have seen this done and it is a really cool, modern look that you don’t usually see alot of. Another thing that has changed because of finding the dress is the wedding cake, the one I found after having all these changes since the dress, is absolutely beautiful. My mom is actually going to do a test one since she will be the one doing the cakes! More research is still going on and there are still plenty of decisions to be made. If you have seen any cute, creative ideas for save the dates let me know since we are also changing those, we are trying to figure what we are going to do for that!

Anyways thats probably it for now, hopefully I’ll be better about posting more frequently. ๐Ÿ™‚

oh my I hope the food is good!

ok, so since we have picked the location, sorta have found the flowers I want, we started looking at caterers a couple of weeks ago. Oh my was I surprised at how EXPENSIVE food is for wedding receptions, its basically just ridiculous. But we are trying to look at all our options and figure out what the best deal is going to be, so thats where we are at right now in the wedding planning process. The first caterer we looked at was a lady in Abilene, June Sheppard, she has her own business her in Abilene and does everything from the food, beverages, dishes, linens, flower arrangements, flower bouquets, decorations at the wedding ceremony & reception. The only thing that she does not do are the wedding cakes, but with my family thats not a problem. We have already decided that my mom and one of my aunts will be doing both of the wedding cakes, which is a big relief on stress and finances. But anyways…the first caterer we looked at, her estimate for everything was $2800, which is a little over our budget of $2500. The second catering company we looked at was TopCat Catering, which is a company here in Abilene affiliated with Alleycats restaurant, which was far far past our budget. Although I was very impressed with their food selection and presentation their estimate for everything was about $4500, and I think the numbers tell it all! So today I went on to my next catering option, which was another very nice restaurant here in downtown Abilene, Cypress Street Station, and who were actually reasonably. I gave them all our information of wedding/reception location, estimated guests number, time of wedding, type of food we are looking at, beverages, dishes and linens options, and was told for the number of people and the type of food we are wanting that $2500 was a good price range. The caterer there will be emailing a ballpark estimate and a list of good options as far as food goes, so I look forward to that email.

So right now our next goals are to pick a date, reserve the Elks Art Center for the wedding/reception, choose a caterer. Once we have those things done we can do all the little things whenever we want. I know we will be going dress shopping sometime this summer with me, my mom, my sister, and maybe one of my cousins, and best friend. Jake and I have started looking and listening to alot of music that we want to have at the reception and some of the ceremony music. We have also been discussing our options for who will marrying us, which is actually one of the hardest parts of it I think.

But for now I think thats pretty much it, once we have the set date picked, ALOT more can be done, such as things with the wedding party, working on save the date cards. We have already purchased the invitations and the stuff we are using to put together the save the date cards. We are doing really well as far as time and money go so far I think. I know photography and catering will be our most expensive parts of the wedding. But other than that we have really saved on alot, but everything is just the way we want it right now at least. More later as things progress. Keep checking back,

flowerssss and more flowerssssssss

So right now with the all the wedding planning, I am really trying my hardest to just keep all my options open and not to just have one thing in my head and only want that…if that makes any sense? But anyways…at the moment I am really enjoying researching and discovering all the AMAZING flower option there are out there and I really want ya’lls input on everything…so PLEASE let me know what you are thinking of everything. But here are some pictures of most of the flowers I like the most, the main ones I am considering for reception centerpieces, decorations, bridal and bridesmaids bouquets, and so on. Let me know what ya think ๐Ÿ™‚

So here is the ivory/white ranunculus

and here’s the classic white mini calla lilies
really loving this one for some reason…just like the way its shaped or something…this is the jeanne moreau garden rose (way different than just the normal red rose you see everyday)

have LOVED this flower the day since I got engaged and started looking at wedding stuff…I like so much because of the good black/white contrast it gives, I just think it would really make a statement in an arrangement or bouquet….this is white anemone, with black center

love the way these look, of course its an orchid…called white vanda orchid
i know this is dark, but I just can totally see it in an arrangement against the green and black, I just think it would really make thing pop! its actually a dark dark burgundy/black, but its a dahlia, I really love these flowers!

This is the beautiful mini green cymbidium orchids…YES very expensive, but I love em’

interesting, yes I know, but you know I love interesting and different looking things…I love the bright green and this is ranunculus also.

this is the pale green garden rose…very pretty ๐Ÿ™‚
